Urban Development
This category contains the research papers that provide a general view of urban development with an aim of providing an understanding of how smart city development can provide equitable growth opportunities to the following two subcategories (Lee and Lee, 2014; Mainka et al., 2015).
Transport and Logistics
This subcategory refers to the topics that examine how the evolution of smart cities would improve transportation facilities (Van Geenhuizen and Nijkamp, 2009). Further, few research papers proposed the detailed classification of info-mobility, intelligent transport systems (ITS), smart mobility, and logistics (Roscia et al., 2013).
Infrastructure
This subcategory contains the research papers discussing infrastructure development (Capdevila and Zarlenga, 2015; Tranos and Gertner, 2012). Smart cities should lead to growth of significant infrastructures, such as roads, bridges, tunnels, railways, subways, airports, seaports, communication infrastructure, water, power, and major buildings. In smart cities, the entire infrastructure should be constantly monitored for maximizing services such as the security of residents, while optimizing the use of these resources (Van den Bergh and Viaene, 2015; Albino et al., 2015).
