Designing a Smart Village

There are a few critical parameters that need to be kept in mind when designing a smart village. The two important decision methodologies that need to be focused on are (1) the scenario of investment with reference to the climate of smart villages and (2) strategies for the growth of these smart villages. In the following sections, both of these focus areas are discussed.

Investment Scenario

This is the scenario with reference to the investment climate of the smart village. The investment climate of a smart village will depend on many parameters, such as policy formulation, institutional and behavioral environment, legal environment, external and internal environment, which influence the risks and returns closely associated with investment.

Growth Strategies

The growth strategies of the village include quality services such as a reliable power supply, clean water, better sanitation facilities, and a few essential services such as health care, transportation, better infrastructure resulting in seamless connectivity, and so on, to be the core of the primary strategy for the development of these smart villages. Also, it should be mentioned that the formulation of the growth strategy of these smart villages should include sustainability; self-sufficiency; a business-friendly ecosystem, especially for the MSME sectors, for entrepreneurs to be nurtured properly; mandatory vocational training should be provided for all the residents of these smart villages who cannot afford to go to traditional schooling systems; and government employees should be properly trained to make the policies implementable at the ground level. Once the strategies are formulated and the methodologies are designed for a smart village, the logical next step is to put these strategies and methodologies into action by using an appropriate and effective governance framework.
