Carré

one of the two types of places where window prostitution takes place in Brussels. A carré is part of a building on the ground floor used for prostitution. The person officially renting the place is the only one allowed to work there, and subletting is illegal. Although the space is commercially used, its intended legal use is residential.

It is more commonly referred to as “voodoo” in the European context, and is often employed by Nigerian traffickers to ensure that the exploited women stay loyal to them - “their benefactors”, and pay back the (extremely disproportionate) cost of their arduous journey abroad.
