Theme IX. Global Processes and New Configuration of Economy

Complex processes flow generate the new economy

The change is generally a feature of human life. In a society the investments and innovations339 appear permanently, spontaneously or voluntarily pursued, and they are transmitted from one generation to another (through selection and assimilation processes) generating history and development (as a change based on creating a better life).

The complexity and its analysis in economics

What gives a particular note of this change highlights new factors promoted by different social groups that cooperate in order to achieve wide range of interests, concepts, passions, etc. and develop theoretical programs.

As I showed in the first part, a common place statements refers to the fact that our world is complex. But banality can turn into a set of questions that often generated responses that revealed great truths. Saying that our world is complex first question (which takes us to a real scientific approach) refers to the understanding of what is a very complex world.

The complexity is the result of states which involve: 1) heterogeneous elements in terms of their nature (they can be different and produce "complex alternative states," 2) in a relationship of different types (direct) or indirect determination or retrospective, permanent or momentary, necessary or accidental, coercion or freedom, able to be known in advance or not, the certainty or uncertainty and risk, etc. 3) produced by different factors, acting as "a tangled ball" (proposed as a metaphor for explaining the "complex" picture of a ball of wool with very tangled wires and cannot be "done" in any case).

Specifically, the contemporary world is changing fast and deep under the action of various factors and actors. The scientific studies have failed to highlight, gradually, one of the factors. Identified separately, one by one, by different researchers in different countries, and working in various fields, the contemporary factors of change should not create us the illusion of being autonomous that would relate to very well designed areas including there is "interdependence"!

Only methodological requirements led to the "identification" of different "factors" treated "as if" it were the intended target areas when, in fact, we are dealing with a "complex flow" processes, actors, forces social work as a "whole," as a synergistic reality. Therefore let us regard these processes as "cut," a complex reality, of "fragments" of reality, without forgetting the essentials: the complex is not the sum of its parts, but becomes real from synergy relations as a result of interdependence relations. The timing is very significant to the identification and appointment of various new factors acting in the world. It is said that "nomen is numen" ("to know is to name"). So, when we do not have a special term to identify a certain reality (or fantasy), we have no consciousness of its existence. In contemporary philosophy of science nomen are not mere names, but "concepts or prisms."

The terms with which "work" today came at a time, changed, went through a real selection process. And today, we believe, there are processes still have not been reported, were not identified, did not receive a name "by which they could" certify existence. So far, from the factors that are considered to act on the planet have been "named" the following ones: globalization and his complementary localization; sustainable development (as opposed to waste development); transition from industrial-type societies to those led by knowledge; the process of downsizing, (the proliferation of SMEs). All of them have "their history" and their record in terms of establishing an appropriate terminology.
