Conclusions

The cost of cellulase production can be reduced in the biorefinery by producing enzymes from sidestreams in the biorefinery. In the current study, cellulase produced from T. reesei RUT-C30 showed FPA activity of 4.5 FPU/mL, and P-glucosidase produced from A. saccharolyticus showed pNPG activity of 339.9 U/mL. Application of on-site produced enzyme cocktail for hydrolysis of WECS and WELP did not show much difference when compared with commercial cellulase preparation, Celluclast 1.5 L and Novozym 188 at different enzyme loadings, 5 FPU and 15 FPU/g glucan. Overall, our study explores the potential of on-site produced cellulases for substituting commercially cellulases.
