SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE

In this experiment, the software and hardware utilization was almost the same as in the experiment tasks discussed in Chapter 7, 2D and 3D Educational Contents. However, the additional equipment adopted for the recording of ECG signals is described here.

  • 1. EGI Polygraph Input Box (PIB): The PIB is physiological measurement system provided by EGI. It is capable of recording the peripheral nervous system activity and EEG signals simultaneously. The PIB consists of seven bipolar channel inputs for measurement of ECG, EMG (electromyogram), respiration (temperature and pressure), and body position (see Fig. 8.1). The PIB does not require any separate software setup and is embedded in Net Station 4.4 or later version. The Net Station software (as explained in Chapter 7, 2D and 3D Educational Contents) consists of a toggle button on the toolbar that shows or hides all the PIB channels.
  • 2. Biosignal Toolbox: This is an open source software library for biomedical signal processing available for both MATLAB and C++ platforms for data analysis. The source code can be downloaded from http://bio- sig.sourceforge.net/download.html. The applications of this toolbox include analysis of electroencephalogram (EEG), electrocorticogram (ECoG), electrocardiogram (ECG), electrooculogram (EOG), EMG, and respiration data.
