About the Author

Paul Falcone is Vice President and West Coast head of human resources for Nickelodeon and the MTV Networks (MTVN) Kids & Family Group, where he is responsible for all aspects of HR leadership and strategy. In addition, he oversees West Coast recruitment for MTVN and all of its brands and channels, including VH-1, Comedy Central, Spike TV, and MTVN's digital companies. He formerly served as head of international human resources at Nickelodeon's sister Viacom company, Paramount Pictures.

Mr. Falcone has extensive human resources management experience in the fields of healthcare and banking as well. Before joining Nickelodeon, Mr. Falcone served as the director of human resources at Platinum Equity, LLC, an $8 billion private equity, mergers and acquisitions firm located in Beverly Hills, which was ranked by Forbes as the thirty-second largest private company in America. While at Platinum Equity, he was primarily responsible for recruiting executive-level talent for the M&A firm's newly acquired portfolio companies.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Falcone served as director of labor relations for the City of Hope Cancer Center near Pasadena, California, a world-renowned clinical cancer research institute dedicated to patient care and biotech research. Before entering human resources, he spent six years as a contingency recruiter and was promoted to director of training and development for London Associates in Los Angeles, where he soon became a nationally recognized sales trainer in the search-and-placement industry in the early 1990s.

Mr. Falcone has dedicated much of his professional life to advancing the human resources profession, both as a member of the UCLA Extension HR Advisory Council and as an instructor in the UCLA Extension School of Business and Management, where he teaches courses on recruitment and selection, legal aspects of human resource management, and international human resource management. He is a regular contributor to HR Magazine, is a nationally recognized speaker for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and has been interviewed and quoted by prestigious organizations like the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, and Bloomberg' s Money News.

Mr. Falcone is the author of a number of best-selling books with AMA-COM Books, a division of American Management Association. His newest book, 101 Tough Conversations to Have with Employees: A Manager's Guide to Addressing Performance, Conduct, and Discipline Challenges, will be released in the spring of 2009. His most popular book, 96 Great Interview Questions to Ask Before You Hire, was SHRM' s number-one best seller in all categories in 2002.
