Morals and ethics are often used interchangeable, yet it is important to view morals as personally held beliefs and ethics as the application of morals within a group. When addressing ethics in forensic science, we are concerned with applying ethical theories in a particular professional context. To understand the foundation of the forensic science professional culture, one must have an awareness for the impact of the work done, understand the particular ethical components that are most valued, and appreciate the real-world application of ethics within forensic science. Consequences of actions and decisions should be considered; however, one should not allow those potential consequences to dissuade the forensic professional from making the best decisions for their work. Honesty and integrity are the hallmarks of science and decisions should be made with those core values to maintain the highest degree of professionalism.
