Program Development, Implementation and Evaluation Project

The major assignment is to plan, implement and evaluate an eight-hour educational program targeted for children, youth, seniors, families or other designated population group. Students work in teams of 6-8 on the project. Student teams and community partner organizations are assigned by the instructors. Team assignment is based on a variety of criteria. Each team will have students from all four academic programs, a relatively equal balance of students that describe themselves as outgoing or more reserved. Students indicate a high degree of comfort in assuming a leadership role in small groups and students on the Dean’s list are also distributed among all of the teams. The project is reviewed and approved by the Faculty of Science Research Ethics Board and teams must plan to obtain informed consent from participants or their parent/guardian. The course instructor(s) are supported in community partner liaison tasks by the Field Placement Coordinator.
