Summary
This chapter covers both Developmental Models of Addiction and Personality Theory. Developmental Models examine both the course or progression of substance use disorders as well as how these disorders impact on normal human development (e.g. how substances interfere with the attainment of developmental milestones) through the lifespan.
Personality Theories examine whether there are particular personality traits that may serve as precursors or antecedents to SUDs and how particular traits appear to correlate with SUDs (not cause them). Impulsivity, high sensation-seeking and other traits are examined as correlates of SUDs.
