Role of Internet of Things and Cloud Computing Technologies in the Healthcare Sector
Introduction
A cloud-based healthcare service with the Internet of Healthcare Things (IoHT) is a model to deliver for urbanized regions and vulnerable populations that exploit digital communication. IoHT offers flexible chances to convert health data into workable. personalized health insights, and helps to achieve wellness outside the classical hospital setting. IoT is assumed to be an innovative method with a collection of interlinked objects that link in several cases. IoT methods are capable of having an entire business spectrum because every device is detected with a smart Internet structure, with several advantages. Such merits are comprised of the latest system connections, facilities, and devices that exceed machine-to-machine (M2M) scenarios.
IoT tends to deploy solutions applicable for various domains such as traffic congestion, waste maintenance, smart cities, safety, modern health, logistics, disaster management, healthcare, trade, and business control. Medical, as well as healthcare, show a higher striking application for IoT. IoT is more applicable in improving medical applications such as fitness, primary care, remote health observation, chronic disease management, etc. Compliance with treatment from the home is an alternate significant application. As a result, diverse medical and diagnostic sensors might be tracked concerning smart devices, introducing the required value of the IoT model. Also, it reduces the cost and improves the working function of the model. In previous decades, most of the developers examined IoT’s potentials concerning healthcare by assuming diverse real-time applications. Finally, the chapter is comprised of diverse facilities and applications of an area.
IoT is a vital section involved in the research community, public sector, and organizations. Several conventional internets facilitate interaction among devices and humans; IoT links everything with an extensive network of interconnected computing knowledge with no human intervention. The application of IoT and wireless communication approaches enables to monitor the health condition of a patient. Moreover, a greater number of sensors and portable devices are applicable in measuring specific human physiological metrics such as heart rate (HR), respiration rate (RR), and blood pressure (BP).
FIGURE 2.1 An overview of a representative IoT and CC-based healthcare scheme.
Although it was present in an earlier phase, businesses and firms have been applied with the energy of IoT. and it is evident that there are improvements in the generation and customer experiences [I]. The combination of IoT in healthcare tends to result in challenging issues, such as data management, information exchange, security as well as privacy, and unified ubiquitous access. A feasible solution that can be used in resolving these issues is present in the CC model. Fig. 2.1 depicts a common healthcare domain that concatenates IoT and CC to offer the capability for using distributed medical data as well as typical structure ubiquitously and transparently. providing on-demand facility, through the system, and meets the challenging problems.
Here, CC provides facilities such as processing of servers, databases, networking, software, and data diagnostics using the Internet, which results in providing rapid installation, reliable resources, and financial scale. Moreover, there has been a recent shift from centralized method CC to the decentralized model (fog computing). Fog computing is utilized to perform data analytics that result in real-time computation, data privacy enhancement, and cost reduction. The increased portable devices, artificial intelligence (AI), and CC assure the organizational base for IoT in healthcare to increase the lifetime of every human. Some of the IoT reviews are experimented by [2] for maximum in-depth as well as highly extensive knowledge regarding maximum factors of IoT to solve maximum problems related to this approach. Therefore, it refers [3] for gaining insights regarding CC and fog computing methodologies, and corresponding applications, different challenges that exist at the time of implementing CC and fog computing, while feasible future works have to be carried out in advance.
IoT offers appropriate solutions for diverse functions that include every aspect of smart cities [4], modern traffic management, waste management, structural health tracking, security, emergency facilities, provide chain, retail, industrial management, and healthcare. Based on a CISCO survey, around 600 billion gadgets will be linked in the future, which is 58 smart devices for every single person. IoT research has been conducted by Statista stating that global IoT studies will attain $8.9 trillion by 2020 from the healthcare sector. Therefore, these merits are accomplished by the combination of IoT and CC in healthcare applications, and health experts providing rapid, effective, as well as optimal healthcare services that tend to be a good user experience. Consequently, it enables to supply optimized healthcare facilities, good patient involvement, and minimized paperwork to health experts.
This chapter performs a survey carried out for analyzing the advanced IoT elements, applications, and market tendency of IoT in healthcare, and the recent growth in IoT and CC-centric healthcare. It also assumes that challenging models such as CC, ambient assisted living, and big data are suitable to apply in healthcare as well as identifying diverse IoT, e-health regulations, and suggestions to compute the way of assisting sustainable growth of IoT as well as CC in the healthcare industry.
