This study aimed to determine big data, which required the use of modem and sophisticated technologies to control well of institutions and know the role of this data in strategic decision-making. This is why we used the descriptive and analytic methods. The most notable of what we found is that big data directly affects the strategic decision-making process.


Large and new changes are witnessed in financial globalization, online exchange, e-commerce, and the information revolution. This pushes the countries to race and adopt all developments to emerge and ensure their existence and continuity.

Therefore, today the world lives in a set of changes that participated in supporting the technological domain, which could turn what was fantasy yesterday into a scientific truth today among big data, characterized by its speed and multiple sources and different types that reflect positively on the institutions. Thus, it facilitated choosing the appropriate alternative for the decision-maker.

Applying the big data requires knowing their relation with the decisionmaking process and then reflection on it to be able to predict their role in the institutions. So the question that can be asked is: What’s the relation between big data and the fact to make strategic decisions?

The study’s importance stems from its exposure to big data and its relation with strategic decision-making by recognizing its concept, development, and role in the strategic decision-making process.

We mainly relied on the analytical approach because it is the most appropriate in such a kind of studies and the appropriate to understand the research problems; i.e., starting with gathering the necessary scientific knowledge about big data and strategic decision, in order to determine its role in the sense that the process of access to result in this study was done in a logical sequence.

In addition, the study targets arriving at a set of purposes most notably:

  • • Recognizing big data and its development through time;
  • • Understanding the concept of strategic decision;
  • • Exploring the role of big data in the decision-making process;
  • • Clarifying the relationship between big data and the decision-making process by giving scientific examples.

This chapter is organized as follows: the first section dealt with the concept of big data to give a view about this term; we touched on the definition of big data, and we gave a historical sight about big data. The second section dealt with the conceptual framework of strategic decisions. Finally, we dealt with supporting the strategic decision to more clarify and better understand.
