COMPONENTS OF STRATEGIC VIGILANCE AND BIG DATA

The firm is always looking for tools to analyze big data and discover the environment, which will allow it to collect and support information sources and tools in strategic vigilance.

10.2.1 DEFINITION AND TYPES OF STRATEGIC VIGILANCE

Also known as “a system that helps in the decision-making by monitoring and analyzing current and future scientific, technical, technological, and economic indicators to avoid threats and take advantage of opportunities” [!]•

For Reixin [2], vigilance is about “investigating competitors’ behaviors, technological innovations, monitoring business strategies, knowing the new desires of consumers and in general, monitoring the environment. All these activities are part of strategic vigilance, which means organizing, testing, interpreting, and disseminating information to improve important decisions iir the organization.”

It is defined as: “the continuous collective process carried out by a group of individuals in a voluntary manner, they track and then use predicted information about changes that are likely to occur in the external environment of the organization in order to create business opportunities and reduce risks and uncertainty in general” [3].

Rouach defined it as “a set of coordinated methods that regulate the collection, processing, analysis, dissemination, and useful information for the firm’s survival and growth” [4].

Concerning the types we can notice: [1]

vigilance has begun to focus is on human resources by looking for qualified people to hire them and improve cadres’ level in the organization by developing a training program.

3. Technological Vigilance: Provides sufficient awareness and a new desire among firms’ managers and decision-makers to make investments in a process that keeps pace with developments and trends, and enables the follow-up process of Impulsive, regular, and direct monitoring and anticipation rather than wait and only keen to obtain and find access to sources of knowledge and information production.

It is the process of researching, processing, and disseminating information on technological developments, or with the characteristic of scientific or technical gains, in production and in the packaging process, and allows the registration of patents, technology developments, and manufacturing processes.

  • 4. Environmental Vigilance: Monitoring and vigilance of economic, political, legal, and cultural developments that affect a film’s activity; the environmental vigilance allows monitoring: tax developments, financial law, market conditions, changing attitudes, and consumer behavior.
  • 10.2.2 THE PURPOSE OF BIG DATA AND THEIR IMPACT

The goal of all this information is how to extract value that enables us to draw frill benefit and make decisions through processing and massive data analysis, which is done in several stages: filtering, understanding, and analyzing of this information. However, before the analyzing process, the infonnation must be stored and then viewed, and this can only be through developed mathematical algorithms designed to analyze and handle these data, such as big data analysis, which will help.

For example, in e-marketing operations, customers are targeted with accurate ads about the same product. To do so, some applications gather infonnation about people searching for a specific product, with the potential comparison in many fields with other products.

Big data is the future generation of computing that creates value by data scanning and analyzing. Over time, user-generated data has grown rapidly for several reasons, including purchases at supennarkets, markets, shipping bills, banks, health, and social networks.

With the development of facial and person recognition technologies, it will be able to give more details and information about anyone. As the number of devices that support the Internet increases, devices that are not used to connecting to the World Wide Web, such as cars, refrigerators, and washing machines, all contribute to the increased volume of data produced [5].

Big data can be used in many areas of daily life [6]:

  • • Governments can analyze the content of their citizens ‘social media websites about a particular decision or system that is in place or about to be legislated and implemented and thus knowing citizens’ reactions whether they will accept it or not, so it will help in making the appropriate decision for each case.
  • • Companies can benefit from analyzing data from social media such as Facebook and Twitter to identify their audience and predict the results of then marketing and sales campaigns.
  • • Musicians can use weblog files and data to determine the details of listening and predicting the popularity of songs in different regions, helping them prepare upcoming live performances.
  • • Weather, due to the increasing number of sensors we have today attached to smartphones, we have more data than ever before on weather conditions with high accuracy. Today, big data can capture accurate images of prevailing weather conditions in different places in the world and use the information they have to obtain high-resolution weather forecasts.
  • • Natural disasters prediction, disaster response units can now use data on natural geology and geographic data to predict potential disasters by analyzing past data and then comparing those data to what is currently happening. Thus, these findings reinforce the predictions of these centers and then take precautionary measures before disasters, and natural crises occur, and develop relief and evacuation strategies before it is too late.
  • • Facebook targets the categories to which ads are directed based on interests’ analysis of its users. It uses big data analytics collected depending on information and data provided by Facebook users, messages, user status, and comments, and analyzes all the information contained in the profile of activities, hobbies, age, location, relationship status, favorite movies, songs which will be an important factor in directing advertising and marketing.

  • [1] Competitive Vigilance: It is an activity through which the firmidentifies its current and potential competitors and all their policies, interested in the environment in which the competing firm develops. The aim is to enable the firm to achieve a competitive advantageto a position in the market, face severe competition in the activitysector, and collect information front a rigorous and strict competitiveenvironment on competitors’ movements and activities. 2. Business Vigilance: Interested in customers’ needs and desires in thelong-term, it also focuses on techniques and how to achieve customersatisfaction, by reviewing complaints that are new approaches tovigilance, and distributors, and sales department.
